On Oct. 30th, Apple announced the release of their new Mac Mini, alongside the new iPad Pro and the new MacBook Air. This little powerhouse has been off of the company’s radar for a while, as it hasn’t been the preferred workstation by creative professionals — the iMac has won in that category a long time ago.
With the new generation Mac Mini, Apple has ditched the dual-core option and has decided to deliver a quad-core base model with the alternative to bump it up to 6 cores. This year’s model comes with up to 64GB of 2666MHz DDR4 RAM memory storage options and up to 1TB of SSD storage. But let me tell you this — they’re quite expensive.
Despite that, they appear to be much better value for its price as compared to most other Apple products. Unfortunately, if you’ve just purchased the Mac Mini you will need some accessories to get it running. These are the top 5 accessories that we believe are a must for your new Mini:
# | Image | Brand | Price* |
1 | LG | $1290 | |
2 | Apple | $95 | |
3 | Apple | $139 | |
4 | Apple | $144 | |
5 | Syntech | $20 |

Probably the first thing you would want for your new Mac Mini is a new monitor and there’s no better option for that than LG’s 27-Inch 5K monitor, the LG 27MD5KB-B. Its impressive IPS-enabled screen comes with a 5120 x 2880 resolution at a 1200:1 Static Contrast Ratio. With 178-degree to 178-degree viewing range and a brightness, that reaches 500 cd/m², the LG 27MD5KB is the perfect monitor available for your Mac Mini. 2. Apple Magic Mouse 2 (Space Gray)
To be honest, there isn’t much you can do on a computer without a mouse to control it — even a Mac. And because this is Mac, there is no better mouse you can get that Apple’s new Magic Mouse 2. It is available in both Space Gray and Silver, but I’ve used the former one to match the new Mac Mini pro-color scheming. The new Magic Mouse 2 comes without the need for you to replace batteries — they’re completely rechargeable. It is lighter, has fewer moving parts thanks to its built-in battery and features a continuous bottom shell, as well as an optimized foot design — all helping the mouse track easier and move with less resistance across your desk. The Multi-Touch support will allow you to use some trackpad gesture-based controls with the Magic Mouse 2. The best part about it is how fast and seamless it pairs — just open up the box and it’s ready!
3. Apple Magic Keyboard with Numeric Keypad (Wireless, Space Gray)
Next in the line of essentials is the keyboard and, once again, there isn’t really a better-performing option than the Apple Magic Keyboard with numeric keypad. Just like the Magic Mouse 2, the keyboard features a rechargeable battery, wireless connectivity, and offers great simplicity, allowing you to enjoy your workflow without any disturbing cables or the limitations arising from them. It also comes in both Space Gray and Silver colors and is absolutely rechargeable. The Magic Keyboard features an extended layout, with document navigation controls for quick scrolling and full-size arrow keys for gaming, if you decide to do so on a Mac.
4. Apple Magic Trackpad 2 (Wireless, Space Gray)
If the mouse is not how you roll (for me it isn’t), then maybe you would love Apple’s Magic Trackpad 2. The company has been the best in terms of trackpad functionality, convenience and comfort for years — and that probably won’t change for a long time. With the Magic Trackpad 2, you have the power to experience the fluid experience complemented with the Force Touch technology, allowing you the enjoy a superior Mac experience. The Trackpad 2 is wireless, rechargeable and also comes in two colors — Space Gray and Silver. Its glass touch area goes edge to edge and features a 30% larger surface area than the previous model.
5. Syntech Thunderbolt USB Hub
And last, but not least, is the Syntech thunderbolt USB Hub. I mean, you get quite a bit of those ports — might as well put them to use, right? The Syntech USB hub is not only affordable but will allow you to connect four other devices simultaneously to the Mac Mini. It features three USB 3.0 ports for data transfer and charging and one USB-C port dedicated specifically for charging. The color of its durable shell kind of matches that of the other Mac products which will definitely bring a sense of uniformity in your setup. The data transfer speeds reach the standard of 480Mb/s~ 5Gb/s, while the USB-C port features 60W/3A charging (Power Delivery-enabled).
